![]() The 2023 Otago Junior Championships were held in conjunction with the final tournament of the Junior HEAD Series at the weekend. Special thanks to Brent Davies, Otago Sports Depot & HEAD for their continued support of the HEAD Junior Series over many years. Also, a big 'thank you' to Neal Corbett and the Wanaka Squash Club for hosting the event with 5 grades battling it out over Saturday and Sunday. It was great to see a big contingent of Squash City juniors from Southland in the draws . Both top seeds proved too strong for their younger opponents with Ingamar Siegruhn (Squash City - Southland) running out winner in the boys over Levi Casey, a very talented 10 year old from Cromwell and the girl's title going to Grace Brenssell (Cromwell) over Melanie Button (Otago). Special prizes were awarded to: Left: 'HEAD' Special 'Fair Play' Prize - Olivia & Mackenzie Smith (Wanaka) with Tony Johnston (SO - Chairman) Middle:: Squash Otago 'Personality Cup' winner - Violet Casey (Cromwell) & Tony with Finlay Rowe (Pirates). 'HEAD' series winners: Congratulations to Finlay Rowe from Pirates in winning the overall 'HEAD' Series with attending all tournament and having consistent results throughout. Final results are: Finlay Rowe (Pirates) - 690 points - 1st; Torben Barlev (Pirates) - 670 points - 2nd; Thomas Barlev (Pirates) - 660 points - 3rd; Hunter Compton (Taieri) - 480 points - 4th & Samantha Batt (Clutha) - 470 points 5th. The Otago Community Trust New Zealand Masters Games are back and they’re bigger than ever.
Registrations now open! The 35th annual Masters Games will be held in Dunedin from February 3-11. Over nine days and nights, an estimated 5,000+ people from around New Zealand, Australia, and the globe will come together to enjoy Aotearoa's largest annual multi-sport event. Will you be one of them? This will be the 16th year Dunedin hosts the Games and we look forward to welcoming back familiar faces and introducing newcomers to everything the event has to offer. Medals are awarded in each sport, in different age categories and, in some cases, both social and competitive grades, so go for gold - or just compete for fun. Whatever your reason, make sure you’re part of the action in 2024! The Annual Otago School's Tournament was held on the Friday of School Sports Week. Eight schools competed with teams from Bayfield High School, Columba College, Cromwell College, John McGlashan College, Otago Boy's High School, St Hilda's College, South Otago High School & Taieri College. All levels made up teams with abilities from new players to the sport to 'C' grade players that play in local competitions & tournaments.
