![]() Last weekend at the Otago Squash Club, 98 players competed in the 2024 Otago District Championships which incorporated the Otago Squash Club 'Open'. High quality squash and very competitive squash was on display making for long and tight games. The tournament was made more special with the influx of players from outside of Dunedin especially from the Richmond Club, Christchurch who chose the Otago Open for their annual 'roadie'. Aria Bannister (Otago) retained the Otago title for a second year winning in four over Sam Cross of Pirates. The 2024 South Island Quadrangular Teams Event was held at the Otago Squash Club last weekend which included district teams from Canterbury, Midlands, Otago & Southland. Teams are made up of 16 players - 3 masters (men & women); 3 seniors (men & women) & 2 juniors (men & women). Canterbury dominated all ties winning 14-2 over Otago; 12-4 over Southland & 10-6 over Midlands. The real tussle was for the runner-up spot. Congratulations and well done to the Otago Team in coming second after a very tight tie against Midlands 8 - 8 matches & 29 - 27 games and then winning against Southland 13 - 3. Southland came in 3rd by beating Midlands 9 - 7. Age-group winners - Southland (Masters); Midlands (Seniors); Canterbury (Juniors)
